Academic Enrichment
At Jindabyne High School, learning extends beyond the classroom. Our Academic Enrichment programs provide students with meaningful opportunities to challenge themselves, explore new interests and develop the skills necessary for future success.
These initiatives are designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence and empower our students to take ownership of their learning. Through these program, we ensure that every students has the opportunity to find a pathway that excited them.
Key Programs
Debating
We are proud to offer enriching debating opportunities that empower students to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills. Through engaging in local, regional, and state-level competitions, students gain confidence, learn to articulate their ideas persuasively, and collaborate effectively with their peers. Our dedicated debating program welcomes beginners and experienced speakers alike, providing expert coaching and a supportive environment to help every student thrive.
Writing Competitions
Our school celebrates and nurtures the creative talents of our student writers through a range of exciting writing competitions and opportunities. We are proud that our students have recently been long-listed in the prestigious Dymocks Writing Competition, showcasing their imagination and skill on a wider stage. Additionally, our writers have made a remarkable contribution to School Spectacular in 2024 and 2025, with a talented student being featured as both Featured Writer and Costume Designer. These opportunities inspire our students to express themselves creatively, develop their writing craft, and gain valuable recognition for their work.
Year 10 Transition Program
Our Year 10 Transition Program is a hands-on, end-of-year week designed to help students build real-life skills and feel confident about heading into Year 11, Year 12, and the world beyond school. The program focuses on boosting students’ career management skills, understanding their strengths, and building the transferable skills they’ll need for future study, work, and everyday life.
Throughout the week, students get involved in a mix of practical, fun, and genuinely useful activities. Local businesses and community members jump in to support the program, like Jindabyne Tyrepower, who run a popular session on how to change a tyre. Students also take part in Survival First Aid, get hands-on experience using hand and power tools, learn key hospitality and fine dining skills, and take part in cooking sessions that build independence and teamwork.
We also run life discussion sessions for males and females, giving students space to talk openly about wellbeing, responsibility, and future choices. On the practical life-skills side, students learn how to iron a shirt, tie a tie, and sew a button - the small but important things everyone should know. Sessions on digital media, budgeting tips, and everyday organisation help strengthen their decision-making, self-management, and work-readiness.
By the end of the week, students walk away with stronger enterprise skills, better future-pathway planning, and the confidence that comes from trying new things and connecting with their community. It’s all about helping them feel prepared, capable, and ready for whatever comes next.
STAR Tutoring
The STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) Tutoring Program offers Jindabyne High School students in Years 7–12 a supportive space to engage in individual or small-group tutoring. Year 6 students from Jindabyne Public School are also welcome as part of their transition to high school.
Students attending STARs receive additional support to complete classwork, homework, and assessment tasks; develop study habits; build literacy and numeracy skills; revise key concepts; or simply access a quiet place to focus. Qualified teachers with expertise across a broad range of subjects are available to guide students and help them achieve their personal best. Computers are available for students to use.
STARs runs Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30pm in the library. Students may attend for part or all of the session and are expected to sign in and out.
Jindabyne High School highly values the opportunities STARs provides our students and community. There is no cost to attend, and students are provided with afternoon tea. All students are welcome to participate as often as they like.
How to get involved
Getting involved is simple; students can speak to their classroom teacher, the relevant program coordinator, or visit the front office for further information. Many activities also promote sign-up opportunities through daily notices and assemblies.
We welcome all students to participate, grow their skills, and discover what they can achieve beyond the classroom.
