Creative and performing arts

At Jindabyne High School, creativity is celebrated, encouraged and woven into the fabric of school life. Our Creative and Performing Arts programs provide students with rich opportunities to express themselves and discover their artistic potential. Whether they are exploring visual arts, performing on stage, developing musical talent or participating in community events, students are invited to engage in meaningful creative experiences.

Key Programs:

Art Club (Weekly)

Art Club runs once a week, all year round in the Art Room, providing students with the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of art materials and creative processes. Activities include watercolour techniques, graphite drawing, acrylic painting, clay construction, cartoon and street art, fingerboard park design, and much more. Mr Caulfield supports students by developing their technical skills and encouraging them to explore personal interests as a means of self-expression. Open to students from Years 7–12, Art Club offers a relaxed, inclusive environment that fosters creativity, collaboration and social connection.

JHS Art Competition

The JHS Art Competition is an annual event that invites both students and staff to submit an artwork in any artform for the chance to win 1st, 2nd or 3rd place prizes. All entries are proudly exhibited within the school and shared across our social media platforms, celebrating the creative achievements of our school community. This exciting event highlights the outstanding artistic talent, imagination and diversity of expression within Jindabyne High School. It also fosters a strong sense of community pride and encourages creative participation across all year groups and staff.

JHS Musical (bi annually)

The Jindabyne High School Musical is a major Creative and Performing Arts highlight, bringing together students from across the school to collaborate in performance, music, dance and technical production. Our productions provide students with the opportunity to develop confidence, creativity and teamwork while experiencing the excitement of live theatre.

In 2023, students showcased their talent in High School Musical: The Musical, delivering an energetic and entertaining production for the school and wider community. Looking ahead, JHS is excited to present Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2026, offering students another opportunity to be involved in a large-scale production both on stage and behind the scenes.

School Spectacular (bi annually)

The Schools Spectacular is an impressive NSW Department of Education performing arts event featuring over 5,500 public school students in choir, dance, orchestra, and solo acts at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, with a theme like "Remarkable" for 2025, celebrating youth talent and diversity. It is an iconic Australian cultural event, a world-class production showcasing student talent from K-12, involving huge ensembles, and offers hands-on career experiences for VET students, with applications typically opening annually for participation.

Each year, Jindabyne High School students and staff proudly participate in Schools Spectacular as performers, dancers and members of the production and technical teams, gaining invaluable performance experience and insight into careers across the creative and performing arts industries. The event also provides hands-on opportunities for VET students and is recognised as a world-class production showcasing public education on a national stage.

Lake Light Festival

Lake Light Sculpture is the Snowy Mountains signature autumn event. Each Easter long weekend, the Jindabyne foreshore comes to life as an open-air gallery of illuminated art - a unique celebration of creativity, community, and light. In 2026, students from JHS will enter with an amazing group exhibit for public display. This opportunity offers students an exciting chance to work creatively as a team, develop large-scale artistic skills, and contribute meaningfully to a much-loved community festival.
