At Jindabyne High School, leadership isn’t limited to a badge, it's a culture of responsibility, initiative, and service to others. Our students are encouraged to step forward, contribute meaningfully to their community and develop the confidence and character needed to lead in life beyond school.
Through a wide range of leadership and service opportunities, students can represent their peers, champion school values, support community initiatives, and challenge themselves in new environments. These programs empower students to build teamwork, communication, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility.

2026 School Leadership Team
Jindabyne High School is proud of its strong and active student leadership culture. Our School Leadership Team is made up of our School Captains, Vice Captains, Prefects, House Captains and Student Representative Council (SRC) representatives, who work together to strengthen student voice and shape a positive school environment.
Through their leadership, service and collaboration, our student leaders help drive meaningful change, build school spirit and ensure every student feels heard, valued and connected to our school community.

As the school captains of Jindabyne High School, we are proud to represent our school and be the voices for our student body. We believe leadership is about treating others with respect, acting with integrity, and having the courage to speak up and make the school a place where everyone feels they can succeed. Our role is to listen to student ideas; support our peers and help create a positive inclusive environment. We are excited to be the school captains and look forward to making jindabyne high school a place where everyone feels valued and supported.

Prefects play an important role in supporting student leadership at Jindabyne High School. Working closely with the School Captains, our Prefect team lead by example, promote positive behaviour and contribute to a respectful and inclusive school culture.

Sporting Captains
Sport and House Captains lead by example, encouraging participation, teamwork and school spirit across sporting and house activities. They support the organisation of carnivals and events, motivate students to get involved and represent their house with pride. Through leadership, sportsmanship and commitment, Sport and House Captains help foster a strong sense of belonging and community within the school.

SRC
The SRC plays a key role as the voice of the student body. With elected representatives from across all year levels, the SRC advocates for student interests, leads positive initiatives, and supports clear communication between students, staff and school leadership. They also coordinate a range of fundraising activities throughout the year, supporting charitable causes and contributing to school improvement projects.

Lions Youth of the Year
Jindabyne High School is proud to support students participating in the prestigious Lions Youth of the Year program, a competition that recognises leadership, citizenship, community involvement and public speaking excellence.
Our students have a strong record of success, winning the local Jindabyne competition for two consecutive years in the 2025 and 2026 competitions. In 2025, Hunter Clark achieved an outstanding milestone by progressing all the way to the NSW State Final, showcasing exceptional commitment, confidence and leadership.
Participation in Lions Youth of the Year helps students grow as leaders, build communication skills and engage deeply with their community, qualities we are proud to see thriving in our young people at Jindabyne High School.
RFS Cadet Program
The NSW RFS Secondary School Cadet Program (SSCP) presents Secondary School Students with the opportunity to follow the values and training of NSW RFS Members. The program provides a broad overview of topics and involves briefings, group discussions and practical exercises. Students enhance their own life skills and knowledge about their local area and community by learning skills in:
- Basic safety
- Appreciation of fire behaviour
- Use and care of equipment
- Working in a team
- Emergency management
- Community service and volunteering
- Communication
- Leadership.
Students also enrich their experience with visits to Fire Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance service, SES and the Fire Emergency Control Centre in Cooma.
Duke of Ed
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (the ‘Duke of Ed’) is a globally recognised program that empowers young people to develop confidence, resilience and independence through non-formal learning. The Award has three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, with each level becoming progressively more challenging in terms of commitment, duration and goal setting. Each level has specific age requirements, time expectations and prerequisites.
To complete a level of the Award, participants choose activities for the four core sections:
- Physical Recreation - improving fitness and healthy habits
- Skills - developing personal interests and capabilities
- Voluntary Service - contributing to the community
- Adventurous Journey - planning and undertaking an outdoor expedition
The Duke of Ed is a self-directed extracurricular program, giving students the freedom to choose goals that are meaningful and personally motivating.
Students at JHS are already involved in a wide range of activities as part of their Duke of Ed journey. Examples include:
- Physical Recreation: dance training, mountain biking, and other school or community sports
- Voluntary Service: assisting with mountain bike trail building, supporting pygmy possum protection programs, and helping in local clubs and events
- Skills: learning musical instruments, improving art or photography skills, and developing outdoor navigation or cooking abilities
- Adventurous Journey: completing expeditions such as a two-day hike from Guthega to Horse Camp Hut, where students plan, navigate and camp in alpine conditions
These diverse activities show the flexibility of the Award and the enthusiasm of JHS students in challenging themselves, supporting their community, and exploring the unique Snowy Mountains environment.
How to get involved
Getting involved is simple; students can speak to their classroom teacher, the relevant program coordinator, or visit the front office for further information. Many activities also promote sign-up opportunities through daily notices and assemblies.
We welcome all students to participate, grow their skills, and discover what they can achieve beyond the classroom.
