The Lions Youth of the Year program encourages leadership skills in Australian students by promoting community involvement, public speaking, and academic and cultural achievement. Through this program, students like Hunter are inspired to step up as the next generation of outstanding young Australians.
Hunter’s speech highlighted the importance of saying “yes” to new opportunities and fully embracing life. Reflecting on her experience, she shared, “The experience was pretty fun. I was very nervous, specifically for the impromptu questions, but I am glad I decided to take part.” In response to questions on Jindabyne’s role in the Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Hunter explained how year-round tourism supports neighbouring areas. She also spoke on Australia’s renewable energy future, addressing nuclear power’s potential while noting the importance of safe waste disposal.
While Hunter found the impromptu questions particularly challenging, she is eager to improve her skills before the next round. “Not knowing what they are going to ask and having to talk for two minutes is very hard,” she admitted. Despite this, she enjoyed the interview portion, where she was able to confidently discuss her experiences.
Congratulations to Hunter on her impressive achievement! We are proud of her success and look forward to cheering her on in the next stage of the competition early next year.
